Soccer is one of the most popular sports in  the world, and it continues to gain fans in the U.S.

Aristides Polio is the new head coach of the Arkansas State University Men’s Soccer Club. He said the main things for the team are to focus on step by step each game and make sure everyone has endurance to keep up.

The ASU soccer team is already warmed-up and taking part in competition though is still in the process of forming. They participated in a tournament at Mississippi State during Sept. 28 to Sept 30.

The team has not only American players, but also many international players who study in ASU. Ibrahim Tayfur is an international student who came from Turkey. He is the goal keeper and the captain of the team as well. He said, “we need to get chemistry, to know each-other well! We need more practice than we can win”.

Everyone volunteers on this team, even though nobody gave up their dreams. For now the club team is using the 2nd field at the Rugby complex, but I know they hope to eventually have their own soccer field one day. It’s still a young team, but they are already on the road, and going as far as they can.

Freshman Soccer Standout Katey Carmichael

If you have been to the ASU Soccer park for a Red Wolves Women’s Soccer match this year, chances are you’ve heard this name, Katey Carmichael.  The freshman forward from Frisco, Texas has made an immediate impact in her first season here at Arkansas State.  She is currently second on the team in overall goals with four, and the only Red Wolf to score a goal in conference play.  The thing that stands out the most? Her headgear.  Carmichael wears padded head gear in every game after suffering several concussions throughout her soccer career.  The Red Wolf Women’s Soccer team is off to a 6-5 start

with a conference recored of 0-2.  You can check out Katey Carmichael and the Lady Red Wolves this weekend in conference play right here at home, Friday at 2pm vs. ULM, and again on Sunday at 1pm vs. ULL.

Red Wolf Volleyball looks to be competitive this season

Red Wolf volleyball assistant coach Jeremy Thornburg feels good about this year’s women’s volleyball team, provided they can continue to play with the same amount of toughness, and determination they have displayed throughout the first part of the 2012–2013 season. He indicated in an interview on Thursday that this year’s ASU women’s volleyball team is extremely competitive, has great team leadership and a young energetic coaching staff which should lead the team to the conference finals and give them a chance at the championship this year. The team is headed out this weekend to play Florida Atlantic and Florida international. Thornburgh indicated that with the high level of play the team has displayed so far this year this weekend’s competition should result in a relatively easy victory.
