Cheering On Concussion Awareness

Arkansas State Cheerleader, Michael Canty, has had more than enough concussions in his athletic career. I had the privilege to sit down with him and discuss his story of dealing with and preventing future concussions.

1.5 to 3.8 million concussions occur in athletes in the United States every year. Because of the long term effects and symptoms of the concussions, most athletic staffs are able to diagnose concussions right after the impact. Coaches and staff are trained to be able to notice the symptoms and how to treat the different severities of concussions as well. Most athletes experience concussions in their teen years when the brain is still developing so it is crucial to get a speedy diagnosis and fast treatment to make sure the brain can continue growing properly.
