Gold in the Family

When you’re in a family full of athletes, it’s expected that you will be great. Anything your parents did, people think you can put on their shoes and do it too. For Nick Hilson, he certainly has some big shoes to fill.

Nick Hilson is a Jonesboro native and the son of Patrick and Valarie Hilson, both instructors at A-State. His mother was a former hurdler at the school. Now he’s going to his mother’s alma mater to compete in the same sport. That’s a lot of pressure. But he’s got another family member that may have even surpassed his mother’s accomplishments. Nick Hilson’s brother is Kyle Clemons, a track star who just won an Olympic gold medal in Rio for the 4x400m men’s relay. I was star struck just meeting Kyle so imagine how cool it would be to get pointers from a gold medalist anytime you wanted, but also, imagine the pressure and stress that probably comes with being surrounded by the greatness of this family. If anyone can handle it though, it would be Nick. He told me that he’s looking to the future, mainly following his brother’s footsteps and winning gold for the U.S.A again, this time in Tokyo in 2020.
